I always find it exciting when a brand releases new foundations or skin tints, especially when it comes in a wide variety of different shades. I recently got my hands on the NARS “Velvet Matte Skin Tint” and I’ve tried & tested it.
Shades from left to right:
#Finland | #Cuba | #Malaga | #Seychelles | #Martinique #Polynesia
Swatches from top to bottom:
#Finland | #Cuba | #Malaga | #Seychelles | #Martinique #Polynesia
I personally think that the product is quite gentle on the skin, very nourishing – It feels very light weighted, almost like second skin and the texture isn’t too thick nor too thin. I also like the fact that it has a matte finish, this allows me to create different textures on the face. For instance, I can always create a dewy finish on area’s where I’d like to. The coverage is medium but easily build able to full coverage. The collection comes in 12 shades in total, most of them have yellow/warm undertones which works great for women in the Middle Eastern region. I personally mix two shades together to match my complexion using; #Finland & #Malaga. I also love how all these shades are named to countries that matches the people’s complexion.
The only downside I would find in this product is that it contains SPF 30 so I probably won’t use it on my clients. It’s definitely great to use it during the day because of the sunblock in it but as a make-up artist it has downsides to it. Whenever you take a picture using flash, the SPF bounces back that results into making your face look very pale or patchy in pictures – almost as if you’re wearing a foundation shade that’s too light for you. Therefore I avoid using foundations on my clients that contain SPF in it just because, everyone takes pictures of themselves after getting professional make-up done, right? Other than that, I think it’s a great product to use during the day or as a replacement for foundations if you’re not fond of them.
If you have an oily skin, you’re probably going to love this product because it’s oil-free. However, I would still recommend using a primer before hand just to extend the longevity of the product. A personal favourite is the NARS “Pore Refining Primer” and only apply it on the area’s of your face where it gets greasy.
