In case you missed it, Smashbox has released a matte lipstick collection in 20 beautiful shades. In my previous post “New beauty launches I’m excited to try” I featured two lipsticks from this collection. I mentioned that I would do a separate post with swatches of all shades. Below you’ll find hand & lip swatches + my review on the new “Always on liquid lipsticks”.
Despite the fact that I love how matte lipsticks look, I always catch myself avoiding wearing it. In many occasions I find the matte lipsticks that I’ve tried so far to be either drying, flaky or too cakey. Having said that, I’m always open to try new things and new products. When I got these 18 beautiful lipsticks, I couldn’t resist but trying them all on. If I were to launch a lipstick collection, these would probably be the colors I would want to create. The collection features a variety of beautiful neutrals, bright & bold colors.

#In demand // #Stepping Out // #True Grit // #Out Loud // #Thrill Seeker // #Bang-Bang
Despite the fact that all shades have the same formula, I find that the texture does varies per color. From the lip swatches you can obviously tell which ones are creamy and which ones are a bit dryer. My favorite shades from this selection are definitely the top two nudes. The brown shade is a bit too dark for me. It leans more towards black rather than brown, I was hoping for a chocolate brown hue. The orange hue (Thrill Seeker) was definitely the driest from this selection. The red shade (Bang-Bang) is an incredibly beautiful color. It’s pigmented and creamy at the same time, only a thin layer is needed for full coverage
Swatches from left to right:
#Bawse // #Miss Conduct // #Girl Gang // #Let’s Dance // # Some Nerve // #Schockaholic
Out of this selection, the dark burgundy shade was the most disappointing to me. It’s quite patchy and it takes layers upon layers to get a full pigmented coverage. It’s unfortunate since it’s such a gorgeous color. The rest of the shades were perfect, all very wearable (even the bright violet) and beautifully pigmented. The longevity was also pretty impressive, roughly about 4 hours.
Swatches from left to right:
#Blast Off // #Baja Bound // #Big Spender // #Dream Huge // #Babe alert // #Chill Zone
This selection out of the entire range is the most wearable and most comfortable in my opinion. The pink and purple hues have a nice creamy (non drying) texture. They all go well with my complexion & I would definitely start wearing these colors regularly. The grey shade is also a little too dark for me but, the formula and pigmentation is great however.
All in all, I think it’s a beautiful collection. Many of the colors are definitely worth trying out especially if you’re looking for a long-lasting lipstick for Summer. I love the fact that the package looks sleek and simple. It’s also lightweight which is great for traveling, at least I can carry a variety of shades with me now. The collection is available at all Smashbox counters across the Middle East for $24 each.
